致外傭的公開信(英文版)

Hong Kong has always been open, multi-cultural city, no discrimination against race, gender, or religion. Every sunday and public holidays, there are a large number of foreign domestic helpers gathering around in districts like central and causeway bay. They have never been harassed or prevented from using public facilities during their holidays. This shows that Hong Kong people are inclusive, respect them all even as foreign domestic helpers.

Foreign domestic helpers in Hong Kong should not be eligible to apply for residence because for practical and economic reasons. Every country has immigration regulations, the primary concern is always the interests of its country citizen. In that case, anti-discrimination, principle of fair justice should not overwrite the immigration policy and regulation just like most of the other countries. The potential employers here will lost its interest to hire any foreign domestic helpers if the helpers who worked in Hong Kong for seven years can actually apply for resident. At the end the Hong Kong Government may no longer issue any working visa to those who have worked over four or five years here. It could create alot of damage to the good but experienced foreign domestic helpers who need a job in Hong Kong for living.

Hong Kong is a multi cultural city, a great place and open for anyone who wants to come here for working, studying, travelling or investing, etc. However our citizen’s interest and benefit will also need to be protected as well. We urge the respectful from those lawyers who stand against our people of interest and those social workers who claim for equal treatment opportunity on the cost of every Hong Kong resident’s pockets.

To maintain the harmony and the longer term relationship with us in Hong Kong, please respect the interest of protecting our Hong Kong resident just like we respect your country’s and any other countries as well.

  1. CLT says:

I would like your organizer to find out a few things:
    1. How come the foreign domestic helpers can have the access to money to pay for the lawyer fees, or their lawyers offer free services, for they are not yet Hong Kong residents, how can they be eligible to use Hong Kong money to pay for the fees. Is their access to money legal?
    2. Why is it that after living here in HK for 7 years one is automatically eligible to be a Hong Kong resident, no matter how unqualified. Anyone knows that $4000 a month is not enough to pay for one’s expense if one cannot live in the employer’s residence. Why is it that the Hong KOng immigration law allow some one who cannot afford to support herself normally ( because normal Hong Kong residents don’t live in employer’s house, if they apply for their husband and children to come not too many employers can have the space for the whole family to live in) to be able to have their application succeesfully approved?

There must be a serious flaw in the Hong Kong immigration law.
Can anyone make application to close this loophole, using the access to money for lawyers like the foreign domestic helpers? If they can, why can’t Hong Kong residents?

If we can have the money for lawyers like these helpers, why not do something about the above mentioned points and offer concrete help to Hong KOng. I appreciate if you can find out the lawyer money trail.
